Reflexology & Pregnancy with Revs Reflexology Footwear

Reflexology & Pregnancy

Pregnancy can be one of the most magical times in a woman's life. But it can also be painful, emotional and anxiety ridden. This is where reflexology can help, not just treatments but also aids such as Revs. Here's why:

A common problem lots of pregnant women face is pelvic girdle pain.
Symptoms of Pelvic Girdle Pain are:
  • Difficulty walking
  • Pain standing on one leg
  • Difficulty moving legs apart
  • Clicking or grinding in the pelvic area
  • Pain during normal daily activities
  • Pain and difficulty during sexual intercourse
All of the above can make your pregnancy miserable. But there are ways to help prevent and also to alleviate the painful symptoms.
In order to accommodate the weight of your growing baby, you may find yourself arching your back more or walking with your legs further apart. This can cause stress on your gait and ultimately lead to back and hip pain. Regular reflexology sessions from 16 weeks onwards can help to alleviate the pressure put on your back and hips when your gait becomes uneven. This then reduces the painful symptoms of Pelvic Girdle Pain.

Not only can reflexology help with Pelvic Girdle Pain and an uneven gait, it can also help reduce general pain, ankle swelling and improve your blood flow which in turn reduces anxiety and improves sleep quality.
There are a number of studies that have found reflexology helps to reduce anxiety, not just during pregnancy but also during labour. Julie McCullough from the Ulster University Maternal, Fetal and Infant Research Centre found that at least 6 weekly reflexology treatments in the third trimester actually helped to reduce the pain and anxiety felt during labour. Not only that, but it also helped to reduce labour time too!

But how can Revs help?

Revs Reflexology footwear is designed to stimulate the reflexes in your foot that control various organs and glands in your whole body. While one step in your Revs isn't as intense as a full reflexology massage, over time the effects are undeniable (just check out our Trust Pilot for hundreds of positive reviews). With prolonged wear you will notice a boost in energy levels, improved sleep quality, reduced anxiety and that your body is general working a little better.

We do, however, recommend that Revs are NOT introduced to your wardrobe within the first 16 weeks of your pregnancy.

This is such a sensitive time in the growing of your little one and the risk of miscarriage is already elevated. We wouldn't advise that you introduce any new treatments such as reflexology until after 16 weeks.

Alternatively, you can always discuss this with your GP or contact a Reflexology Practitioner. You can find a registered reflexologist here: https://www.aor.org.uk/custom/far-search/

Pregnancy can be one of the most magical times in a woman's life. Reflexology is a popular non-invasive natural therapy that women can enjoy to support the journey. The journey for some can be smooth and for others it can cause physical and emotional challenges, and reflexology can help with those challenges, pre and post natal.

Some common complaints include fatigue, swollen ankles, pelvic pain, anxiety, restless legs, and constipation. Reflexology can reduce or alleviate much of this. It is a relaxing therapy and can be experienced wearing Revs Footwear.

Follow the wearing recommendations and enjoy the journey!
