RAYNAUD'S DISEASE

Statistics suggest Raynaud’s Disease is very common, affecting around 10 million people within the UK alone, and population worldwide, and affects more women than men. It can start at any age but tends to initiate around the mid-20s. Raynaud’s is a common condition that affects the blood supply to certain parts of the body – usually the fingers and toes. Cold weather or temperatures, stress, and anxiety are all factors that can trigger the symptoms of Raynaud’s. This occurs because your blood flow is restricted when the blood vessels go into a temporary spasm.
Raynaud’s Disease, also known as Raynaud’s phenomenon or just Raynaud’s
There are two types of Raynaud’s:
1 – Primary – when the condition develops with no other contributory factors

2 – Secondary – when the condition is caused by other ill-health, i.e. auto-immune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, scleroderma, atherosclerosis

Raynaud's Disease

It is very common to see the tips of the fingers or the toes go white. Numbness, pain, and pins and needles are also symptoms. It is also referred to as “white finger/toe”, “wax finger/toe” or “dead finger/toe.”

Although primary Raynaud’s is not serious it can be very uncomfortable, and the symptoms can last from a few minutes to several hours. There is also no cure for Raynaud’s but there are some useful tips to control or reduce the discomfort and the cold feeling.

Revs Massage Insoles for Raynaud's Disease
How to Relieve the Discomfort of the Symptoms of Raynaud’s
Because the areas affected are mainly in the fingers and the toes we suggest:

When exposed to the cold, wear sheepskin or merino wool gloves and socks as they hold the most heat, and carry hand warmers with you to use when needed
Relaxation Techniques if stress is the primary cause.
Circulation boosting products, such as massage; and exercise if you are able. We recommend Revs Massage Footwear as they stimulate the soles of your feet and promote blood flow around the whole body. The Revs massage insoles are excellent for warming your feet due to the constant massage that promotes circulation. They are suitable for all shoes so you can wear them all year round for any occasion and your feet will not suffer from the cold with these in your shoes! They even keep your feet warm in ski boots! The Revs sandals range also double up as slippers so great to keep your blood flowing as walk around indoors too.
If you smoke, this will exacerbate the symptoms as smoking has a negative impact on your circulation, so we do suggest you stop.
